Japanese Curry Puffs
These delicious curry puffs are super fun to make and perfect as an appetizer. Think of everything you love about Japanese curry filled inside a crispy puff pastry. You won’t be able to stop at just one!
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 medium carrot, diced
- 1 medium russet potato, diced

2 teaspoons Oaktown Spice Shop Japanese Curry Powder
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3⁄4 cup chicken broth
- 1 sheet puff pastry, cut into squares
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Toasted sesame seeds (for sprinkling)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400°. Add neutral oil into pan on medium heat. Add carrots, let cook for until slightly softened. Add in onions, let cook for 1-2 minutes. Add in potato, let cook until softened but not mushy.
- Add in ground beef, breaking up any large pieces. Add in salt, pepper, sugar, and curry powder. Let cook for a few minutes.
- Sprinkle in flour and stir well for a minute.
- Pour in chicken broth and mix everything together. Let cook until everything has softened and liquid has reduced slightly. Remove from heat and allow everything to cool.
- Lay out frozen puff pastry and allow it to defrost (up to 20 minutes or until slightly softened). When ready, cut puff pastry into squares.
- To assemble, add a scoop of filling in the center of puff pastry. Fold corner diagonally and press down edges. Using a fork, press down on edges to seal. Add egg wash to the top and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Add puff pastries to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until top is golden brown.
- When ready, remove from oven and let rest before enjoying.
